Although you may rest assured that organic production is free of chemical inputs (and genetic engineering), do expect to see dirt and even signs of critters on your produce from time to time (if bugs won't eat it, why would you?!). This is perfectly natural -- however, it is still important to take care in washing your produce and to tear or cut off any parts that are significantly marked or damaged. You may even consider an organic veggie wash as an extra precaution. Greens are especially good vehicles for "hitch-hikers" -- be sure to dunk, rinse, and shake off greens thoroughly before eating!
