September is generally a month of cooler temperatures, higher winds, and more rain. After the summer season that the Okanagan has experienced, it is a welcomed change. The shift in temperature during this month always prompts me to bring out my crockpot. After a summer of quick, cool meals, casseroles and soup once again begin to appear on my dinner table. One of the most convenient ways to prepare a delicious casserole or soup is to use a crockpot.
Crockpots come in all shapes and sizes. Generally, they range from 3.5 quart to 6 quart models. One of the conveniences of crockpots is that you can put all the ingredients in at once, turn on the switch, and leave it for the day. At the end of a busy day, it is wonderful to come home to a warm, nutritious dinner that is ready when you are. There are endless types of dishes that can be made in a crockpot; anything from main meals such as casseroles and soups to bread, desserts, and hot drinks.
Another advantage of crockpots is that they reduce the number of dirty pots and pans and the need to turn on the hot stove. Below are some recipes for casseroles and soups that can be made in the crockpot.
