Ingredients
Swiss chard is native to the Mediterranean, not Switzerland as its name might suggest. It was discovered by a Swiss botanist in the 19th century. Although it is a member of the beet family, it is grown for its mild flavoured leaves rather than its root. Unlike other heartier greens, Swiss chard will only stay fresh for up to four days. So, store unwashed chard in a plastic bag and keep it refrigerated. If you have too much chard, you can blanch the leaves and freeze them. Swiss chard is highly nutritious. It boasts over 50% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, 300% of vitamin K, and more than 100% of vitamin A. And, on top of that, it is also versatile and delicious.
