Picture Snacks
Recipe for Category Fun Food for Kids & Parents
Contributed by Jennifer Peachey
This "game" is an ideal way to make eating helthy food fun for young people. Using pieces of healthy snack foods, create a picture on a large plate. A face is simple enough for those not artistically inclined.
For example, eyes can be almonds, radish slices are ears, a tomato wedge is a mouth. My children enjoy announcing which part of the face they are eating. Examples of suitable snacks are carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumber, radishes, cabbage, green onions, almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds (make good hair!), raisins, bananas, apples, and orange segments.
See Dips, Spreads and Sauces for dips to accompany the picture snacks or any raw vegetables. You can also use pre-made dips that are available at grocery stores or health food stores, including Salsa, Hummus, and Tzatziki.
