Dulse Fried Oyster Mushrooms

(Note: Dulse is a sea vegetable that has a very distinct seaweed flavour. It is high in calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, iodine, manganese, copper, chromium, zinc, and vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and E. The flakes can also be sprinkled on salads, in soups, stews, and casseroles, and baked in breads. The flakes are available in most Health Food Stores.)

Ingredients

Flour Mixture

1 tsp Dulse flakes, pulverized
½ tsp Garlic powder
¼ C All-purpose flour
Salt and Pepper to taste

Liquid Mixture

½ tsp Dulse flakes
¼ tsp Garlic powder
½ C Water

Bread Crumb Mixture

2 C Fresh breadcrumbs
4 tsp Dulse flakes
½ tsp Garlic powder
1 ½ C Olive oil
4 oz Oyster mushrooms, rinsed

Instructions

Combine the ingredients for the three mixtures separately and set aside. Heat oil to 350ºF in a medium-sized saucepan, about 5 minutes over medium heat. Dredge mushrooms in flour mixture. Shake off excess flour and dunk in the liquid, before rolling in the breadcrumbs. Fry in the hot oil for 45 seconds each side, they should be golden brown. Drain and serve.
