Gingered Brandy Toddy

Ingredients

1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
3 cups water
3-inch piece gingerroot (thinly sliced, cross-wise)
3 Tbsp fresh-squeezed lemon juice
3/4 cup brandy (or to taste)

Instructions

Combine sugar, water, ginger, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Simmer with cover on, stirring occasionally, for 15 min. Discard the ginger (using a slotted spoon) and stir in the brandy. Divide the toddy among 4 heated mugs, and garnish each drink with a lemon slice. Serves 4.
